Medical Facilities & Services

Pro-Air Ambulance Service is certified to fly to all cities in the United States. Their aircraft, equipped as an ICU unit, can provide medical personnel for the flight. Pro-Air makes arrangements for ambulance service to the airport, handles all customs and immigration procedures both in Aruba and at the destination. Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital in Aruba boasts a 280-bed hospital equipped with reputable medical staff and modern equipment. The hospital, which opened in 1976 and now undergoing a major expansion (2017) is located near Eagle Beach in the "low rise" resort area. Services such as oxygen tanks and hemodialysis are available. It functions as a general hospital with established ties to the U.S., Colombian, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican and Dutch hospitals for specialized treatment and care. The hospital does offer overseas medium coronary care; hemodialysis and emergency care as well as provide specialists in a wide range of fields.
The hospital does not accept foreign checks or any health insurance plans for payment. Payments may be made by credit cards or cash only. Hotels have medical doctors and dentists on call that can be contacted through your hotel's Front Desk.

Besides leasing or selling medical products, visitors may rent products such as walkers, wheelchairs, hospital beds, crutches, commodes, side walkers and a complete system of oxygen therapy with cylinder or concentrators, as well as nebulizers. LiteLife Medicab Aruba provides professional door-to-door medical transportation with trained driver-attendants for those in need of wheelchair and specialized transportation. Adapted Happy Wheels rents beach wheelchairs that easily maneuver through sand and float in a pool or the ocean. They will deliver to the customer's place of stay or their beach of choice. The mobi-chair allows ease of transfer to or from a wheelchair, entry into the water and exit from the chair while in the water. Pharmacies (Boticas) will not fill a foreign prescription but will assist you in making arrangments with a local doctor if necessary. Boticas also carry the usual over-the-counter medications and additionally there is always one drug store open 24 hours on a rotating schedule for emergency situations.

Visitors with Disabilities Visitors with disabilities don't have to worry about a thing. All handicapped travelers are accommodated and welcome. Facilities in Aruba meet all standards. Most hotels in Aruba have handicap accessible wheelchair friendly rooms. Personal assistance animals are permitted if accompanied by a health certificate reflecting recent rabies innoculations.

Medical Services at the Airport Queen Beatrix International Airport is friendly to all travelers with a major or minor disabilities and is wheelchair friendly. The airport meets all standards set forth by the ADA (American Disabilities Act) including restrooms, holding rooms, ticketing and check-in areas and food service areas. Attendants are always available with wheelchairs. There is also a fully equipped medical facility with highly trained professionals. Arrangements can be made through this facility for special needs upon arrival and/or departure as well as emergency treatment while at the airport. Personnel are also permitted aboard aircraft in emergencies and for evaluation.
